Historically, every movement in US history has had its moment and then the pendulum swings back towards the center.
For example, The Civil Rights Movement in the 60’s made great strides fighting for equality in this country. Jim Crow laws were eventually outlawed and on the surface, things were moving in the right direction for black Americans. Over time the momentum slowed but it never regressed. Things in 1985 were better in many ways for blacks than they were in 1965. The momentum slowed and there are still multiple issues that blacks are presented with on a daily basis that makes you wonder if there really was improvement at all. With that being said I think it is safe to say that opportunities exist today that did not exist 47 years ago so strides have been made and they will continue to be made. Racism still exists but this is not a racist country no matter what President Biden says.
Another example is the Women’s Movement which has been around since 1918 but took new meaning and strength during the Sixties. Again, strides were made and are still being made on a daily basis but the leaps and bounds early on are now small incremental steps. All in a good way but the progress is slow. There still is a major underrepresentation of women in boardrooms and in the C-Suite but it is getting better. NASDAQ’s requirement (or attempted requirement) that it’s listed companies have to be making progress regarding diversity and women’s representation in managerial and decision making positions is an unusual step but is a very prominent attempt of helping women break that glass ceiling. The movement has slowed as well. Things are improving but now it appears that it will be a much longer road to true equality as far as executive positions and more importantly, pay equality. It will happen but it will take even more time.
This brings us to the present day. We have seen turmoil over the last two years. The George Floyd demonstrations. The Defund The Police camps and you have some small faction of government that actually believes a Democratic Socialism will work. All factions pulling the fabric of this country apart but like every other movement, they are starting to lose momentum and while the problems may still exist and the feelings might still be very high I think what you are seeing in this country is a bigger movement. One that still values what made this country great.
Respect for the foundations we grew up on. No matter what liberal BS is being taught in elementary schools, parents are still responsible and they are not accepting this ideology that doesn’t sit well with what they believe in.
That pendulum that was swinging so far left is moving quickly away from the threats that, if unchecked, could destroy this country and towards the basic foundations that we grew up on and relied on.
The liberals that wanted to pat criminals on the back and say,” We understand, try to do better out there” and let career criminals go out and wreak havoc are now being tossed out. Free ticket to Cuba or Venezuela. Let’s see how well you do there.
The liberals that wanted schools to teach about chosen sexuality to five year olds are also being told no. Parents should be involved and responsible for giving guidance to the very young. Not liberal school boards. In middle school or high school? That’s a different discussion.
On a bigger stage, I think the media in this country is moving a little closer to the center but it’s an industry that has entrenched liberalism at its core and this is where the pendulum may be stuck way out to the left for a while. One thing I think you are seeing is a move away from some national networks and more towards a localized non-partisan reporting. The networks have been losing viewers for decades and that is mainly because the quality of what they put on the air sucks but it’s also a function of weaker and weaker ratings for their news lead in shows. People don’t want to hear about the Jan 6th investigation night after night. The Democrat broadway production of the hearings had pretty robust ratings for the first 30 minutes and then people left to watch “Stranger Things” on Netflix. The more the media focuses on this investigation the more the people of this country believe it is another attempt at putting the Trump Administration in political Hell. I think the storming of the Capital was black mark in our history but let’s face it, if Donald Trump had some smoking gun, it should have been discovered by now and the links are getting weaker and weaker. It is obvious to most Americans that these hearings are a direct ploy to take the attention away from how bad this administration is and how poorly the Democrats have done in dealing with practically anything that has come across their desks. This is where the media has truly failed. They have focused or tried to focus American’s attention away from the economic hole this administration has eagerly put us in and the failure of this administration to secure our borders. Forget all of the other missteps, they surely have.
So, momentum has slowed for a lot of the Democrats’ policies and the mid terms are only five months away. The pendulum has starting swinging to the center and those that still hang on to those leftist ideas will surely fall off and someone with a more moderate approach will take his/her place. Regardless of what side of the aisle you sit, you have to know that like drinking, politics works best in moderation.
This is just your opinion, mine differs significantly. I still love you though.
