What in God's Name is Going On?
I shouldn’t apologize for this but I am sorry, I do not understand why every thing that politicians do has to be a battle. Aren’t these fools there to govern all the people?
It just gets worse and worse out of Washington and no matter what side of the political spectrum you sit, you have to realize that these guys suck.
Every bill that comes through Congress is an example of too many words, too little substance.
For example, this latest bill regarding Ukraine, Israel and the border funding is over 370 pages long. Ok, I get it, these things are complicated and there is a piece here and piece there that is supposed to satisfy everyone but does it take 370+ pages to say that they are going to allocate Federal Funds for helping Ukraine and helping Israel? Is protecting our southern border so complicated?
The thing about this bill is that it was handed out to everyone on what Saturday? They voted on it yesterday. Complex legal documents take forever to go over. The legalese is mind numbing and I am sure there were attachments and footnotes and budgetary items that were slipped in as well. Sure, Congressmen and Congresswomen have full time staff and they all read different sections and parse down the important stuff for a staff meeting. Hey I watched West Wing too! Then they have another meeting with the elected official and highlight stuff to him/her and he/she decides how to vote or if more negotiation is needed.
It’s a broken process.
Think about a family of five at 5 o’clock when dinner hasn’t been decided. Let’s have McDonalds, Let’s have Chinese.. No we had Chinese two weeks ago, lets have Thai. Oh No I hate Thai but I will eat it if we have Pizza the next time we order take out. And so it goes. That’s five people who have opinions. Imagine 485 people negotiating! That’s 485 people that may follow party lines, or may not. That’s 485 people who on Monday wanted Chinese food but 286 of them want that pizza. But wait 230 of them don’t want pizza now they want Sushi.
You get my point? They can’t decide on anything. No matter how important it is for this country. They fail.
The system may be great but it is populated by people who are not so great. Sadly, I do not think it will ever change and maybe this mayhem is a good thing disguised as a bad thing.
The alternatives are not better and no matter what AOC and her merry band of malcontents say, Socialism, Democratic or not is worse.
Let’s put a final nail in that coffin and try and straighten out the rest of it.
I was never a fan of Ted Kennedy but the one thing the guy could do is step over the aisle and get people to have a constructive conversation about legislation. There is no Ted Kennedy out there. Yet.
However, since I am a man of hope and believe in this experiment called America, I think there will eventually be a thawing of relations between the parties. Joe Manchin for example, a traitor to some, but he did not toe the party line like a Chuck Schumer. He would not always vote for every bill that Senate leadership wanted him to. He voted with his head, mostly and he was smart enough to find a ladder and climb out of the Washington cesspool.
I am going to nominate John Fetterman for this new role. I know I ripped this guy multiple times for being close to braindead at times but I see that his head is clear and he speaks from the heart and does not care if it ruffles the feathers of some of the more progressive Senators out there. I think as time goes by, he will continue to gain clarity and see that his role as a Senator from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is becoming more and more important. He’s a Democrat, so I may not agree with everything he says but he has principles and I can respect that over everything else.
We expect so much more from these people and yet they always disappoint. Maybe we are the fools and they are the smart ones. They fail, yet they keep their jobs and get signed up repeatedly to continue in that job when they actually suck at it. That is politics in a nutshell. That is Washington DC in a nutshell. It’s not a swamp, it’s a cesspool.
