It might seem a bit premature but if look at what happened last night, you might think you are in The Congo or Venezuela.
The Colorado State Supreme Court tossed President Donald Trump off of the 2024 Presidential election ballot.
Sounds crazy right?
President Trump could have been charging like Teddy Roosevelt up the Capitol steps, saber in hand, leading the 4 armed boys and AL Qaeda into the Capitol building and he still should be on the ballot.
Why? Because he has never been charged. Never been convicted.
The Colorado Supreme Court accused, tried and convicted Donald Trump in abstentia, or was it just in their minds.
They used the vague language in the 14th amendment to pull off this little political stunt and there will be Hell to pay for sure.
First things first. The Trump camp will head this over to the US Supreme Court and at least ask for a stay and they most certainly will be granted.
Secondly, the US Supreme Court knows the urgency of this particular item and will bump it up the calendar. It will be addressed by late February, early March and the US Supreme will look at it and vote. My guess is 8-1 in favor of throwing it in the trash where it belongs. There will always be some super left leaning Justice (along with super Right) that will vote against the most obvious choice.
This a particular brand of overreach you see in Third World countries. Is it happening here?
I would like to think that our judicial system has enough oversight and checks and balances to never let that happen. You never know though.
There have been so many places that politics have swept away common sense but you would think that the rule of law is above that, apparently in Colorado it’s not.
Look, let’s be honest here. The Democrats have indicted Donald Trump for everything from Jaywalking in Central Park to stealing a child’s baby bottle outside of a WalMart in Indiana. He obviously is a wanted man in every jurisdiction with a Democratic AG. Yet, he still leads in every poll. He will destroy Nicky Haley and Gov DeSantis in the primaries and will be Joe Biden’s (or his facsimile) opponent next November.
The Democrats keep miss playing his indiscretions. Every time he gets indicted, his poll numbers go up. What do they think will happen when this winds it’s way to the Supreme Court?
People will fall off the fence and into his camp because it is obvious to me and to everyone else that this is another attempt at destroying his campaign.
He is not a good man, let’s face it. He has done wrong, no doubt. However, in this country, you are always innocent until a court of law has ruled that you are no longer innocent. Either a judge or a jury makes that decision and they are obligated to follow the rules of law. The innocent always have the opportunity to defend themselves. I guess in Colorado they don’t.
When was Donald Trump found guilty of anything regarding the events on January 6th? Maybe in the court of public opinion but not by a jury or a judge. Period.
This may be one of the worst chess moves by a political party in decades. How in the World do the Democrats think that this will stick? How do they think this won’t push their numbers even lower?
When political science student study blunders that cost elections this one should be case study number one.
Yep, Yep and Yep.
