Get the Turkey in the oven. Put on Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaraunt Massacre” at noon. Watch 9 hours of football and fall asleep on the couch.
It is time to give thanks
First and foremost we all need to give thanks to our families. For the health we all share and the prosperity that may have settled in our homes.
Never forget the big picture and the smaller picture won’e seem so big.
Let’s give thanks for the country we live in. With it’s numerous warts, it’s still the most beautiful place on Earth and no matter what anyone might think, the World is a better place with us in it.
I want to give thanks to all of our servicemen active and retired. The freedoms we take for granted are all the result of their sacrifice. This country will never do enough to thank these men and women properly but we should at least start. As the son of a World War II veteran, all I can ever do is be thankful to our armed forces.
Now, let’s give thanks to our elected officials. Men and women who have sacrificed major careers in the hopes of making America a better place to live. They have overcome the disdain and mistrust of the opposition to become leaders forging a path to keep America great. Sacrificing millions of dollars and opportunities at even greater wealth to serve the public. That is true sacrifice.
I would like to give thanks to the media in this country. Without a fair and unbiased media we would just be a wealthy third world country. Hearing of the greatness of our leaders and squashing opposing viewpoints. No, our media machine tells the truth and leaves personal feelings aside. We are a stronger, more cohesive country because of them.
Let’s give thanks as well to our medical leadership. Leadership that helped us through the darkest times of the pandemic with concise leadership. Never straying far from what the research told them. They saved millions of lives with their work.
Lastly, I want to give thank to corporate America. Quickly acting to figure out distribution and manufacturing. Sacrificing profits to make sure US citizens got the supplies they needed without breaking into their savings to pay for fuel oil or beer. Yes, corporate America should be proud of how they responded to exiting the pandemic. Their shareholders are.
Seriously though. We do have a lot to be thankful for and I have gratitude every morning.
Happy Thanksgiving!
