Time to Get Political
Over the years, I have tried to keep a somewhat open mind about politics. What do I believe in? Is it the whole conservative spectrum or do I have a dark side and believe that maybe the Democrats may have a point?
I think I can say that I am a fiscal Conservative but socially, I may be a mixed bag. I do think this country has an obligation to those less fortunate. Be it the homeless or indigent in New York or the starving children in less developed nations. I also think that we should not be spending every last cent trying to buy votes to keep our elected officials in office.
Do some of us need help? Yes. Do we do a good job of helping those in need? No.
Take for instance our Veterans. We spend billions to bomb the Russians back into their Vodka bottles but yet we can’t help our Veterans stay away from theirs. It is a national disgrace and I challenge anyone to disagree.
We have what amounts to an open border and our elected leader is the only one to blame. Yet, I do believe we should allow immigrants into this country to help continuing building this great Democracy. The problem is that those two ideas can not coexist. It is time that the Liberal press takes another unbiased look at the situation and light a fire under the asses that need to be burnt and work to correct out feeble leaders huge mistake. Create a workable policy that takes everyones best interests at heart. Free for alls never work.
As I mentioned in Monday’s column, President Biden has come up with some version of student loan forgiveness that completely ignores what the Supreme Court ruled on. I am no Constitutional scholar but that seems totally illegal and if Congress doesn’t act appropriately to cancel Joe Biden latest dumb idea, this country is in a lot of trouble. Seems almost like a dictator acting on his own and I am sorry, that won’t cut it. When Donald Trump did that, he was called out on it, so should Joe Biden.
In the race for the White House 2024, Former President Trump is still leading in most polls. By the end of the summer of 2023 I believe he will have close to a combined 100 count indictment against him. To put it realistically, more than half of those indictments will falter (NY’s Brave DA Bragg’s indictments will fail for sure), the indictments in Palm Beach County Florida will probably also come up short. The Jan 6th pool of indictments will be a problem for him but as we all know, the wheels of justice turn very slowly and if everything holds true to form, the trial for any or all of these alleged misdeeds won’t take place until late 2024 and by that time, President Trump may be reelected. He might just want to get reelected so he can pardon himself and walk away. Who knows but it doesn’t seem like anything is slowing President Trump down.
And why?
I have repeatedly said that the Republicans have a pretty deep bench but none of them seems to have that something that people will jump for. Not sure Donald Trump has that either but whatever he has seems to be better than what anyone else has.
Too bad because I really do think that anyone running against President Biden should be able to spin him around and make him forget where he is supposed to go.
The Democrats love him because he is easily manipulated and it still seems the progressives have his ear but unfortunately for that group of chuckleheads, they have fewer and fewer ears listening to them. That faction has proven to be out of step with the country as a whole and the damage they have caused will take years to undo.
Sadly, (this goes for Republican as well) loyal Democrats will continue to vote for President Biden. They make up 45% of the population. Roughly 18 % are independents and 37% are staunch Republicans. Republican victories happen when those mildly independent voters vote Republican. Very few crossover votes so the Republican need their base to show up and they need a story for those undecideds.
The last election it was, “Vote for anyone other than Trump”, this time around, I am not sure what we will see.
