Things Will Never Change
Probably the four most discouraging words ever spoken. Maybe that’s a bit much but whenever you hear them uttered, it’s usually not a good thing.
As much as both sides argue and continue to disagree about practically everything regarding this country and the way things should be, you still hope, someday, someone will come along and bring both sides closer together.
No, Donald Trump is not the reason. He may excite people to the point of no return but it’s not just him. It’s philosophies. It’s the moving of society to the furthest point away from center.
I am a Conservative but I always try to understand what the left is trying to say. I try, but it makes no sense most of the time and the rhetoric just moves further and further away from what I believe. There are some Republican policies and ideas I don’t believe either so I am an equal opportunity skeptic.
Actually, I am a cynic.
I am getting to the point where I think both sides have lost it.
You know from previous columns that I firmly believe the Democratic party is only a few steps away from going into the abyss. That abyss will set them back decades. They don’t see it but the damage they have done to this country will not be forgotten no matter how the national news media ignores it.
I am starting to get a feeling that the Republican party, drunk on power, has lost it as well. While I stand firmly for many of the policies of the Trump administration, I can not back his tariff policy (whatever it is today) and his Big Beautiful Bill is something written out of the Democrats playbook.
The last bill that this country needs is one that will continue to increase the debt burden we face. Donald Trump is not Ronald Reagan and this is not 1981.
I can blame President Biden for the predicament we are in but that is too simplistic. The policies of the last 22 years have put us in this hole. No Economic Recovery Act will get us out of this. The government is out of control and I could care less if you are a Democrat or a Republican, you have to face the fact that we are in deep shit.
DOGE found fraud and waste, and the Democrats and all the left pushed back. DOGE probably did not succeed as much as Elon Musk or President Trump said it did but the one thing it did accomplish was the fact that we have allowed our government to create a sucking piglet of waste through it’s teats. To be honest, the numbers are meaningless because everyone has lied. Musk and his posse surely have lied about the amount of waste they killed. They found it for sure but these are political animals here and the 10 million that was going to the parrot farmers in Paraguay will still find a way to get there.
No, what they did is help open the eyes of all Americans. There is an incredible amount of waste out there, all with government support.
What I don’t understand though is why anyone would complain about ferreting out corruption and waste. Big or small, everyone should be on board to rectify it.
The Democrats aren’t. That says all you need to know.
Back to this Big Beautiful bill. First things first, that is a freaking stupid name. Second, I really don’t know who to believe about the size and depth of the increases to our national debt but one thing is for sure, it is not reducing our debt anytime soon.
This is a hugely complex bill but that has buried inside it, billions in appropriations for stuff that does not need to be appropriated. I get that negotiations to pass something like this takes haggling.
“I want 23 million to build a 13,000 feet runway at my home airport in Topeka. We need it to land the big jets that will be flying in. You want 19 million to light up your high school football field, you got it”. How about, the both of you shove it up your a**. Saves 42 million right there.
You get my point. The more things change the more they stay the same. The Republicans are almost as bad as the Democrats and every one of those greedy, selfish crooks in Washington should be held accountable.
They won’t.
