No Apologies
While there is a lot in life to apologize about I have decided that are a few things that I will not apologize for.
I will not apologize for being a proud American. For flying our flag night and day. For believing in the Constitution. For knowing that this still, with its faults, is the greatest country on Earth.
I will not apologize for literally despising Socialists, Socialist agenda or anything to do with the so-called Social Democrats. These people do not believe in America. They do not believe in the fundamental principles this country was founded on. They believe in a form of government that has everyone tethered to their government with no thought as to why every Socialist government has failed. I could spend hours listing the failures and faults of the ideology but I won’t. Just look at Venezuela.
I will not apologize for holding out hope that Joe Biden can make some miraculous comeback for what could possibly be the worst nine month beginning of a Presidency on record. My feelings are this: I root for every President to succeed, no matter what party affiliation. Our President does well, our country does well. Our President sucks, well you have Joe Biden and the results are obvious.
On that note, I will not apologize for liking Bill Clinton. As a man, he was a horrible human being but as a President, I liked him. He was a moderate Democrat who could work both sides of the aisle. He knew enough not to touch any of the things that Ronald Reagan put in place and our economy boomed and we were respected around the World. Even though some of the credit should go to George H.W.Bush, Clinton kept his hands off of the economy and put them to use elsewhere.
I will not apologize for believing that things were better years ago. Kids played outside and came in dirty and smelly and hungry and slept the deepest sleeps. Family time was dinner with everyone at the table participating. No kids sitting at the dinner table with their cellphones out and not engaging at all. The music was much better as well. A great song from 30 years ago is still a great song today and will remain a great song 30 years from now. I will not apologize for believing that nothing produced in the last ten years will be listened to or even considered a great song ten years from now, let alone, in thirty years . Maybe it isn’t that important to this generation and I suppose that is okay but what is important? Kim Kardashian’s eyebrows? So, I will never apologize for believing that while we have made major advances in many ways, it was still better years ago.
I won’t apologize for believing in the negative effect man has had on this planet. Yes, I do think that there is a dramatic shift in the climate of the planet and man is responsible for some part of that but climate scientists also agree that the planet has been warming for some time. This is a natural occurrence that happens over thousands of years and will continue to happen after we are extinct. We have moved that cycle up much faster than normal and that is probably why we are seeing such dramatic climate events. While the theory that seems to be most popular is our use and misuse of fossil fuels over generations has helped warm up the planet at a much faster pace, I think that is an easy scapegoat. Let’s see, cutting a million acres of rainforest in the Amazon a year has nothing to do with it? Populations that have grown exponentially in Africa, Asia and South America has nothing to do with it? Feeding eight billion people has nothing to do with it. We, as a species, are on this planet to destroy it. Take a look at what we have and what our alternatives are going forward. No matter what we do, we will be destroying the planet one way or the other. Nothing is as reliable as what we have and what we should be doing is looking to make what we have less environmentally disastrous as opposed to creating new ecological time bombs with dubious advantages.
I will never apologize for backing our police. Without a strong well-trained police force there is nothing stopping anarchy. Look at San Fransisco, look at New York City. Without a justice system that backs the police, chaos ensues. People can say whatever they want about Rudy Giuliani, he put the power of policing back in the police departments hands and New York became the safest big city in the country. There was pride in the department and New York boomed during this period. Bloomberg, never one to miss a golden opportunity continued his support of a well trained, well paid police department and growth continued. Then, things changed, and it had nothing to do with the rare instance of the department overstepping, it had to do with the Mayor’s office not backing the police and then the State of New York enacting perhaps the most misguided legislation on record (Bail reform) and things slid down hill fast. Luckily, as history has shown, this can be corrected and fairly quickly so I have not lost faith in the process.
Lastly, I will never apologize for feeling that we, as a society, have failed dealing with the homeless population. At some point, we have become so hardened to the plight of the homeless it’s like we don’t care and that is not what this country is all about. We have always reached out to help communities devastated by disaster. We have always reached out to help heal communities after tragedy. Why can’t we put together a workable plan to help this growing segment of our population. Many of these people are Veterans and it’s like we have discarded them. Most have some sort of mental impairment and need professional help. Many are just victims of circumstance and with this renewed vigor in government spending, why can’t money be spent wisely helping them? There is also a growing segment that is dealing with some sort of addiction. We spend billions on pork barrel stupidity, why not spend billions on getting these people the help they need.
