Since this is the last regular column of 2023 i just want to round up a couple of thoughts.
The first one is simple. President Biden has failed in his duty to protect the United States and for that alone, he should not be reelected.
His duty is to preserve our borders and he has failed, miserably. I am no legal scholar but I think, given enough time, he probably could be impeached for failure to perform his constitutional duty. Obviously, it would never make it through the Senate but what a ride that would be!
The guy is completely confused and this would make him become paralyzed. I don’t like being this person that picks on the elderly. It is truly a shame how we treat the senior citizens in this country but let’s face it, he is the President and much more is expected of him. He wasn’t sent to the White House against his will and maybe he really has no clue as to how bad he is managing things but he has a wife who he trusts and she should say,”Joe, hunny, maybe it’s time”.
Well in any event, this year President Biden has done little to deal with the border situation and I think that that should be the number one issue in the coming election.
As I have said in the past, I think this is a much bigger issue than Joe Biden. I think the Democratic party wants as many of these illegal immigrants in this country because by and large, when given the chance to vote, they will vote for a Democrat. That is the number one reason that Democrats do not want strict voting measures in place. They will over time get these non citizens registered and educate them in such a way that they all will believe that voting for a Democrat will cement their place in American society.
While I think a lot of rRepublicans may believe that scenario as fact, they are taking a much different tactic, they are fighting to have these people removed, sent back to whence they came.
If I am an immigrant, I go through the process and become legal in this country, who do you think I would vote for? The people that have helped me become a legitimate citizen or the people that have fought tooth and nail to keep me out? You see, the Republican tactic while well intensioned could potentially backfire.
Let’s say that Donald Trump gets reelected. He closes the border and has Homeland Security find and deport as many illegal immigrants as possible. There still will be potentially two million people that are here legally waiting on court decisions and undocumented people that have slipped through the cracks. Pretty much everyone of those people, given the legal opportunity to vote, will vote for a Democrat. The Republicans will have failed miserably in gaining traction with theses new citizens.
I am not saying that the Republicans should give up trying to seal the border off, what I am saying is that they have to accept that they failed and it is time to try and undo some of the damage they have caused with this potential voting population.
I am all for legal immigration. It is what made this country great and we need immigration if we are to prosper in the future. The Biden Administrations course of action was a total and complete failure and he should be held accountable for it, but the Republicans have failed as well. Creating a workable immigration policy and on the back end, getting the newly created legal immigrants open to Republican policies and ideas.
The other point about Joe Biden, I think is important for this coming year, is the economy.
A lot of people will argue this and my details are a little fuzzy but while most people did not like Bill Clinton, I did. I thought he was an excellent orator, he knew how to reach across the aisle to get things done and he knew not to mess with Reagan’s economic policies from the mid 80’s. What about George Herbert Walker Bush? GHWB did little to derail the Reagan policies and wasn’t really given much of chance to expand on those policies so some feel he was an extended version of Reagan (Which wasn’t a bad thing). Clinton actually knew enough that the economy was growing at a rate comparable to post WWII and he wasn’t going to touch it. He may have been a horrible human at times but he wasn’t stupid.
This is the parallel I would like to make now. Say what you will, up until the pandemic, the Donald Trump economy was incredible. Every boat was lifted by the end of 2019 and prosperity, real prosperity was spread through all economic levels. The pandemic obviously set us back years and it took trillions of dollars and a newly reopened economy to get us back on track. Joe Biden spent his way to full employment never thinking about the long term implications. That will be for another administration to tackle. He takes a victory lap when he is pointed in the right direction but honestly, anyone with a basic knowledge of macro economics could have done the same thing.
Spend, spend, spend and people will work, work, work. It’s FDR all over again.
Obviously, it’s too late to undo a lot of this overspending. Some of it was needed and will be put to good use but it was more about throwing money after a problem and see what happens, not caring where that money will come from.
I am in the minority camp that feels a lot of it was unnecessary and basically an appeasement of unnecessary that might have started favoring Trump’s economic policies rather than Bidens.
I think that as painful as it might be for the Democrats, they should have constituents Trumps policies of lower taxes and more free market activity instead of recreating the more onerous policies of past democratic regimes.
Less government and more free market. It worked for Reagan, Bush and Clinton. It worked for Trump up until the pandemic.
More government and less free market has never worked. Just look at the Obama administration f you need proof. The only reason that the economy has expanded and grown this time around is because of excess government spending, not because of Bidenomics.
With all that being said, people tend to vote with their wallets and I am pretty sure most people in this country believe that they have are doing better now then they were at the beginning of the Biden administration and that, my friends, is a very powerful inducement to keep the present party in power.
A note on this point. Barrack Obama got reelected and after both terms people would say there was zero difference between the beginning and end of his tenure. Eight years of zero advancement, yet this guy is still extremely popular. Go figure.
So happy that we are on the same page !!
