With the potentially devastating midterm elections fast approaching, it seems that the media and the Biden White House are ramping up the BS.
Typical of any party that is threatened with losing a majority, the lies and misdirection out of the the administration is truly unsettling.
Let’s recap: The administration has done an incredibly poor job at protecting this nation’s security. The number one goal of every President since Washington has been to protect our borders and they have failed. Miserably. There is no op-ed in any paper in the World that can convince me (or any intelligent person) that the administration has not truly blown the situation on the Southern borders. It is a national disgrace and for that alone, this administration should be booted. Granted we still have 2 full years left but without the power of a majority in Congress, they can’t mess things up much worse. Or can they?
Will the Republicans take advantage of this situation? Probably not. The way I see it, the Republican governors in those border states are making a stronger case for Democratic control of both house of Congress. While I understand Gov Abbott’s response to this situation, I does not help the Republicans running for the House and Senate one bit. A Republican Governor is sending migrants to Northern Democratic cities to make a point. The point will end up being, this Republican is sending unwanted illegals to our cities. He’s a Republican and therefor all Republicans are bad. Yes, I know that is super simplistic but remember the people who voted Bill DiBlasio and Lori Lightfoot into office really are not all that bright.
There should be a National reckoning about the migration policy in this country and the administration should answer directly without bumbling and sounded downright stupid when asked important questions.
The next failure of this administration is its inability to come to terms with inflation. Every poll I have seen in the last 18 months has shown that American’s believe the number one concern, is inflation. The administration again is totally tone deaf and without question, has no idea how to get out of this spiral. The Fed is doing what it thinks appropriate and that is what it is. You know from past history that fighting inflation is a slippery slope and the Fed has gotten it wrong more than it has gotten it right. However, the blame lies squarely on the White House. To see the President feeling emboldened by the past inflation numbers and thinking that everything is going according to plan boggles the mind. The administration somehow got this IRA passed and while it may not have the inflationary power of the last three acts the administration has championed, it still will be inflationary. Don’t be fooled.
For inflation to slow, multiple things need to happen. One huge thing is the US Government needs to stop spending money like a drunken sailor. Government spending, I believe, was the primary fuel source for this inflationary spike. Money supplies increased substantially and this country just did not have the capacity to produce what was in demand. Simple.
There was only one spending program that needed to be enacted and yes, it was inflationary but the demand side of that period would have adjusted quicker. Granted, you wouldn’t have seen the robust earnings and that huge GDP jump but it would have moderated quicker and things would have gotten back to normal faster. Instead, the administration like the result and pumped more and more money into the system and things could not catch up.. They blew it and there is no question about that.
That’s all ancient history and you can read all of the NYTimes articles about how the poverty levels have decreased because of government help. Great theatre for the administration but people seem to forget that after the Trump tax cuts we had the largest increase in jobs, lowest unemployment in 45 years and the lower middle class saw the largest increase in incomes in history. Hmmm, the lower middle classes saw the largest increases in history. That would translate to poverty levels going down and yet, the Times never did one story on how the Blacks and Hispanics saw their incomes rise faster than any other time in history. Then Covid happened.
Which brings us to another point that is lost to the liberal media’s obfuscation of the facts. The Trump administration , while late getting going, basically recreated the response to a National emergency. Got drug companies on board about creating a vaccine and spent the money that was needed to get it done. The Biden administration, in its dubious attempt to outsmart the virus, held off on pushing the FDA to grant clearances earlier. It may have only been for three weeks but three weeks in that period of time was critical. The results were catastrophic for families and the Biden administration (This should have been a clue early on) blamed the Trump administration for the delays. The facts are clear and you can look it up, as they say.
Harking back to an earlier column, administration is amazing. We can look back and point fingers and change the dialogue all we want but looking back exposes mistakes made. I honestly don’t think anyone is blameless but that is my point, take the blame, don’t blame someone else. You messed up, admit it. Fix it. Don’t let it happen again.
As you well know, I think this administration is horrible. Has nothing to do with Democrat or Republican. It has to do with actions and how they are handling the mess that this country is in. They are doing a poor job with almost everything that has come across their desks. The good moderate Democrats (yes, there are many) are being drowned out by the left leaning, ultra liberals and that will be, in November, their undoing.
With that being said, hard right Republicans are really not much better and their connection to Donald Trump may be their undoing. Or maybe not.
Excellent commentary!! and I'm in the "maybe not" category;)
