It's Not The Heat...
We know how that one ends and it is true for the most part. The last few days in the Northeast it has been sultry, to say the least. Clear skies, 90+ degrees with 70 to 75% humidity. It’s uncomfortable.
To top it off both of my air conditioners have decided that 20 years is enough. Back to 1968 when we all had window fans and sweat through the night. I’m not complaining, just stating my current state and why todays column might be a short one.
It’s a pool day, or a beach day.
Over the last few months we are seeing the leadership of this country looking more and more feeble.
You know President Biden’s status so I won’t go over it again. I just feel bad for him because, like many people of his age, he is losing cognitive ability and it is for all the World to see.
It happens.
It’s more critical with Joe Biden because he is the President but otherwise I do feel for him.
There are other leaders that are slowing down due to age and becoming a liability to their respective parties.
The difference is that if you are a Republican you should be run from office and if you are a Democrat, the story is barely covered.
Every week I rail on about the media in this country and it just keeps getting worse. The bias of the National media would be something to behold if it wasn’t so dangerous. Reading the coverage of Diane Feinstein and her struggles, you would think she was Sojourner Truth. Fighting for the rights of the indigent or whatever. She was not a good congresswoman and in another profession she probably would have ended up in jail. She is basically a comatose wheelchair bound Cruella DeVille and the liberal media lets her skate.
Yet, Mitch McConnell has had several episodes that are still rather fuzzy and the media wants him sent to one of Andrew Cuomo’s nursing facilities. He has been cleared of stroke and other medical emergencies and he moves on. Yet, the media dogs him and wants him removed.
McConnell, never a favorite of mine, is obviously dealing with age related issues and he should probably call it a career. That’s just being honest. He’s done enough (good and bad) and it’s time for him to move on.
Same with Feinstein.
Yet, the coverage is totally different regarding their mental and physical states.
Next we have that big tub of crap from Pennsylvania, John Fetterman. He is an idiot. That election in Pennsylvania is proof positive of my theory, put up two really bad candidates, the worst one will win. The Republicans completely and utterly blew it there and it’s no wonder Joe Biden found several hundred thousand votes in the Philadelphia area at 10:30 at night and won the state. I love Pensylvania but that was embarrassing and Fetterman is the ultimate embarasment.
The next pile of garbage in Washington is George Santos. From my district on Long Island. He is suffering not from cognitive decline like the previous three losers, but from delusional tendencies. Thankfully, his term is short and he will be gone in short order.
What’s surprising to me is that the liberal media, with a golden opportunity to take apart a Republican, yet they haven’t. They have reported the story and I can honestly say I think the reporting has been fair. Shocking.
All of this brings up something that I think everyone who pays any attention to politics in Washington already knows. The political machine in Washington runs by it’s own set of rules and while the media spends countless hours on the disparity between the rich and the poor in this country, they spend zero time going over the disparity of the political elite and the citizens they represent.
There are literally thousands of examples of how Congressmen and Congresswomen play the system out for their benefit.
How is Nancy Pelosi worth 100 million dollars? In her lifetime what do you think she has made? Her husband? Naw, the benefits of being a true Washington insider are many but the fact that she sits on committee’s that have access to billions of dollars of funds to be dispersed among public and private companies should pretty much explain it.
The list of multi-multi millionaires in Congress is long yet a US Senator makes $174,000 a year. Nothing to sneeze at but if I were to be honest, I think they should get paid much more and held accountable on much more. Actually have Senators follow the same laws as you or I. Will never happen of course because they make the laws and we follow them and then they make their own rules and they pretty much don’t follow them.
That is why America believes that Washington DC is a cesspool. It is.
Remember, I am a Capitalist. I believe to get talent and retain talent you need to pay for talent. I have no problem with a CEO making a substantial amount of money if he is the right person to lead my company. Are some compensation packages abhorrant? Yes, absolutely, but for the most part executives get paid what the market will bear for their services.
The same thing should go for representatives. Pay them an attractive salary and eliminate all of the sketchy rules that they barely pay attention to.
Every account of every politician should be reviewed on a daily basis.
The Patriot Act pretty much gave the Federal government broad powers as far a financial inquiries. If you work in the securities industry, you know what I am talking about. The SEC, FINRA, the FBI all can come in and basically look at every check you have every written and inquire as to the source of any funds and then proceed accordingly.
I get that and have had to deal with it for over 18 years and I think there should be a similar situation for members of Congress. Reporting can’t be at the end of the year on your tax statement.
Obviously, this will never happen.
