There, it’s over. Sort of. The Mid-terms came and went and whatever the polls predicted, whatever The New York Times predicted, whatever CNN predicted, it didn’t happen exactly that way.
It looks like the Republicans will regain control of the House. Ok, that was expected. The Senate is till a toss up and we may not really know the outcome until December. So, this rhetoric will continue.
Before I start, I am going to reiterate a point I made after the last Presidential election and I know there are a lot of my readers who will disagree. Election fraud had little or nothing to do with that election or this one. Sure, there may have been some hanky- panky at some polling sites but the reality of the situation is this. To commit a fraud on a scale that both parties have claimed in the past would be a monumental undertaking. I am sorry but to commit fraud you need people with some smarts, people you can trust, opportunity and rewards. I don’t see several polling places in Pennsylvania dumping ballots and creating new ones. I don’t think it is physically possible to subvert an entire election. All it takes is one or two people involved to snitch and bring the whole thing down. The DOJ would launch an investigation and whatever the size of the fraud, it would eventually be exposed. Before all my conservative friends launch into the DOJ is run by Democrats nonsense. Look back, they couldn’t find the boogeyman when Hillary got defeated. Doesn’t matter what party is in control, they have never found any widespread fraud in elections. Besides, both parties would be equally as culpable if it actually existed. So, enough already with denying election results. You lost. whoever you are.
Unfortunately, we will have to get our news about the elections via some biased media portal. The explanations will come fast and furious and the liberal media will say the soft results are a result of America turning away from Trump Republicans and Abortion rights. The conservative media will crow about taking the House and possibly taking the Senate as well. It’s about refocusing America and yada, yada yada.
I think there may be something of the Trump stigma but I am not totally sold on the idea. I do think that Donald Trump is a divisive figure in his own party and that could present a major problem going into 2024. For now though, his specter is still around and there is another star rising in the South, Ron DeSantis.
Given my opinion that if you looked at the candidates that ran this year, for Senate and for the House, they all pretty much sucked. My high school could probably put up better candidates and we were dead last in Debate-a-Thon 1975 and every year that followed. This was not an election for the best candidate, but for the least worst (poor grammar but you get my point).
Let’s review the stupidity:
Hochul beats Zeldin for Governor of New York. This might be the last nail in the coffin for New York. A governor who has no clue about the issues that 100% of New Yorkers worry about and no, it’s not abortion rights, it’s crime. The state is falling into a place where residents no longer feel safe. The previous administration put in place reforms to lower the incarceration rates in NY and all that has done is help increase the crime rates. Nice going. She has no interest in getting rid of those reforms and all that will do is convince people, myself included, to leave a place they love and find safer pastures elsewhere.
Fetterman defeats Oz in Pennsylvania. I don’t think this was such a shock but I had hope that by some miracle, Dr Oz could pull it off, given the fact that he was handed one of the worst opponents of any election in US history. Fettermen is a bumbling idiot that has zero clue about what it will take to be a strong influence in the Senate. The only hope is that he decides that the only way to get things done in Congress is stay towards the middle because that is what he will need to do if the Senate has a Republican majority. Oh, and one last point that it seems the Liberal media loves, Oprah came out and endorsed Fettermen. This whole train of thought is ridiculous. Who cares what Oprah thinks? She is pretty good at recommending books or empowering women to succeed in a male dominated World. Great, but as a judge on the viability of a candidate? Sorry, I don’t buy any celebrity telling me that they endorse someone. How can the suburban Moms that she supposedly influenced be so malleable? If that’s the case, we are in a lot more trouble than I thought.
This isn’t stupid and it’s a sign that maybe dumbasses can’t get elected to national office. O’rourke lost by a fairly wide margin to incumbent Greg Abbot. No surprise there. A Republican Governor with a pretty good record in a Republican state has a really good shot at winning and having the dimmest star on the Democrats bench run against him is a layup for sure. Oh wait, The New York Times on their webpage made a specific point that four of Texas’s twelve border counties were won by O’rourke so that means that Beto O’rourke is the future. I will put it in print now, If Beto O’rourke becomes president I will move to Canada, Mexico or possibly Costa Rica to live out the rest of my days.
Now to Georgia. The Governors race was won by a Republican so in typical political fashion the Senate race is a toss up. Huh? Yes, generally people vote on party lines. That has been a historical fact. With that in mind, how is it that Herschel Walker is in an almost dead heat with Warnock? Simple. Walker is a very flawed candidate. The revelations about his relationship with an ex girlfriend and his insistence that she get a couple of abortions had to hurt his chances greatly. He is not eloquent and while he was an extremely popular football player, his experience and history have mucked up his chances. Warnock is not without flaws either. The revelations about his treatment of his ex-wife can tell a lot about the man. At this writing it looks like there is going to be a recount and then a runoff sometime in December. Rest assured, hundreds of millions of dollars will be siphoned to Georgia and by the time you have this runoff, people will be sick of it. At the end of the day though, I do think Walker will win.
The race for Governor in Arizona and the Senate race as well may be called into question. Voting machines in Maricopa County (The states biggest county) may have been compromised. Granted, this is a state where election fraud is the number one topic of conversation. The Democrats have a slim margin and I am sure there will be lawsuits and all sorts of investigations so we will have to wait and see. Again, I am not in the conspiracy camp but there definitely were some problems so this will have to play out a little before the election is called.
The other states up for grabs right now are Wisconsin, Alaska, Nevada along with Georgia and Arizona. Wisconsin looks like it will remain Republican (lot closer than expected I might add). Alaska, will remain Republican as well, no matter how it plays out. Nevada looks to be flipping to the Republican side but its close. So, it probably will be days or possibly weeks before we actually know which party controls The Senate.
What all of this shows is that; What we thought was going to happen, didn’t. Polls are invariably wrong. The media paints a picture and it up to us to actually determine what is truth and what is not. No matter what Donald Trump decides, there is a new sheriff in town and he either puts his gun back in his holster or he will end up destroying the party he once headed. Both parties need to do a better job of putting up candidates.
You did an Excellent job on your "in depth" analyzing of the election results. Also appreciate the humor, we needed that. What disturbs me is what the population of this country is willing to tolerate and endure. Very sad. This election should have been a tsunami to overturn the debacle of the last two years, but was instead, less than a ripple, explaining Americans are satisfied with their rulers. Keep the bar low and you'll always meet your goals.
