In Defense of...
Capitalism.
Yes, thats right, things have started trending in a direction that is less favorable to capitalism and I am here to stop it.
It seems there is this very small but very vocal super minority that believes that Capitalism has had it’s day. It has been the cause of the supposed huge disparity between the upper reaches of the socio-economic spectrum and the lower reaches of that same spectrum.
Duh. Of course Capitalism is to blame because Capitalism rewards success and hard work. People who decide that they would prefer the government provide them support rather than supporting themselves end up being on that lower end. The government should not penalize success and reward laziness.
The class divide has gotten wider and larger swaths of the population are falling behind. Statistics will back that up and this political super minority is going to change the playing field anyway they can. This super-minority has decided that increasing taxes on a select portion of the population is one way they can attempt to bridge that growing gap. As we have seen, many of the super rich have said that they are willing to pay their fair share and will not oppose a higher tax rate. However, considering how much debt this country has taken on and could potentially take on in the coming months do they really think taxing the super rich or even the rich, will close that gap? Not even close.
What will help close the gap between the classes is a growing business class. Lower taxes creates wealth for a larger swath of the population than any government handout. We have seen the economy grow exponentially after the Reagan tax cuts, after the Bush tax cuts and most recently, Trumps tax cuts. Just look at the statistics from the Trump era prior to Covid. Lower to middle income groups saw a significant rise in employment and along with that, higher wages, and most importantly, success at any income level produces more tax revenue. That is Capitalism at work. In 2019, black and hispanic unemployment were at their lowest levels in history and had Covid never happened, you can only imagine the success of both of those communities.
While this super minority fights for something called a Democratic Socialism, they have put fear in the hearts of every Democrat in Congress. The social media power of this group is extraordinary and no matter how much I dislike these Socialists, they keep getting reelected.
Imagine if you will, a time when they have gained control of our government. Putting Socialist policies in place, you will work for the government, have zero interest in succeeding because the government will take what they need and direct you to places they want you to go. The government will control your daily lives. Thats Socialism and should it succeed, Capitalism in the United States will die. Indirectly, the Communists will have taken over and never fired a shot.
Ok, enough with the fear mongering but I think you get my point. When Capitalism succeeds, everyone benefits. In a Capitalist society, everyone has a chance to succeed without the government interfering. No avenue to success is without bumps and roadblocks but navigating that path successfully is possible in a Capitalist society.
I am sure there more than a few readers that might take issue with my take on this and I welcome any feedback, positive or negative. I am not ignorant to the obstacles people of color have being successful in a society such as ours but I am sure if you talked to any member of any minority in this country and asked them what they would prefer, to have a chance to work hard and succeed at something or get government handouts and support, they would prefer working. Thats Capitalism.
