Huh?
It’s President’s Day in the US and just like every other President’s Day, someone, somewhere comes up with a poll ranking all the President’s of the United States. They poll historians and to make things more transparent, they have these historians identify as either a Republican or a Democrat. This way you know their predilection and can’t be accused of just having one demographic in their poll.
Still a little suspicious i think because most historians are liberals. I know that is a very broad statement but what else could explain how these historians constantly want to rewrite history and emphasize certain historical facts over others. For example, their is a growing belief that the history of this country should start in 1619.
1619 was the date the first slaves arrived in this country and without slavery, this country would never have gotten to where it is without the hard, brutal work done by the slaves during the first 300 years of our development. While no one will ever dispute the impact slavery had on this country, I don’t think it is fair or accurate to decide 400 years later that that was the birth of this nation. I am not a historian and my basic knowledge of American history is just that, basic, but I have heard quite a few very knowledgable historians dispute that assertion yet it still persists.
My point is, historical references and opinions are two separate things. Facts are facts and opinions are opinions. Yet, we keep getting opinions to be made out as facts.
Confusing? Certainly is and I don’t like confusion.
If you have an opinion state it as such and this latest presidential ranking is just that, a bunch of opinions.
How else could anyone in their right mind rank President Biden as the 14th greatest President this country has ever had? Seriously?
What is even more ludicrous is that President Reagan is ranked 16th. I mean if you want to be taken seriously you really should try not to be so stupid.
This is from the Presidential Greatness Project Survey. Look it up and vomit. What is even more disturbing is that they have President Obama as the 7th great President in US History.
Holy Crap. I don’t even know where to take this stupidity apart first.
I think I will start with President Obama. He did nothing in 8 years and he is made out to be this savior of mankind. Oh Wait! He created Obamacare. I think my case is closed right there.
Reagan behind Biden? Are you Effing kidding me. Reagan stumbled and mumbled towards the end of his Presidency yet he basically took down Russia without firing a single shot. Put the economy on such a strong footing that even Bill Clinton knew not to mess with it and we saw one of the strongest economies in World history get even stronger. Even at the end, his speeches were mesmerizing. I am not saying that Reagan was the Greatest President this country ever had but I will say in my humble opinion, Ronald Reagan was the greatest President we have had in our lifetime.
I am sure there are many readers who will look at this poll and scratch their heads about where Bill Clinton ranks and why is Jimmy Carter rising since the last poll? I am one of the few that felt that Bill Clinton was a decent president. Morally he would rank with Donald Trump but President Clinton knew the only way to get things done in Washington was to negotiate and that is what he did. He started out as a left leaning Southerner who realized that with the cCongressional makeup at the time, he needed to become more moderate. And he did. Was his administration sketchy? I think so but if it hasn’t been proven by now it never will be.
Jimmy Carter is more of a sympathy move. I have always said this, he was (and still is) a very good man but not a good President. As you well know by now, I voted for Carter and felt he was the right man to bring some sense back to this country. Unfortunately, that’s not how things run in DC.
Another thing that really bothers me and I know I am alone in this, I always liked George W Bush. I liked him as a President, I still like him now. I think he was never given the proper credit for his accomplishments and he was ripped because of the failures. I think George W’s problem was not George W, but it was the people he had surrounding him. He trusted the wrong people and that ended up in disaster. Through his faults though, he stood in the rubble of the World Trade Center on September 14th and brought this country together. That is something you can not forget.
I am pretty sure that Obama or Biden would not have been up to the task. Biden because of his mental faculties and Obama would be blaming America for making these terrorist hate us so much that they had to attack us.
Reagan would have turned the Middle East into a parking lot.
Again, I digress.
I know these polls are just 170 brainiacs who look at things from a skewed point of view and I will admit, the people that conducted the poll have said pretty much that so they aren’t saying that this is authoritative. It is all opinions.
Oh, they have President Donald Trump at the very bottom and while that is no head scratcher, you have to believe a lot of the distaste for President Trump stems from the person he is and not the job he did while in the White House. It’s a shame but his mouth stands in the way of his record and that is where these historians have gotten it all wrong.
