Diverting The Story...Again
It seems that everything that is going on in this country pains me to no end. I very often wonder, “What happened to us?”. Not an easy question to pose and impossible to answer. Where did we go off the rails? I don’t know and I doubt anyone truly does know how it happened or when it happened but here we are, a country divided. A country that has been lied to by the ones who weren’t supposed to lie. Friends taking sides on every situation. Family members not talking to each other because their beliefs are no longer shared. Communities ripped apart because of violence and the approach to that violence. Will we ever come together again?
I can’t tell you that anything I write about will help. I sit on a side of the fence that some agree with and some don’t and to me, that’s ok. However, what I can say, is that I will listen to opposing viewpoints and look forward to hearing rebuttals. Except on two things, Social Democracy and gender identification. Being a moderate Republican, you can easily guess my feelings on both so I won’t bore you but as far as anything else, I’ll listen.
As is typical in politics, we are starting to see the impetus from the White House change. Going from the most important issues of the day, inflation and the economy, to something different. Instead of coming up with a plan to bring inflation down and to try and avoid a recession, our leaders are pressing other issues that, if you want to be truly honest about it, are not really that pressing for the average American. What the White House and the bulk of the Democratic Party are laser focused on is the January 6th hearings concerning the insurrection at the Capital.
I am not saying that getting to the bottom of this isn’t important, it is, but in our daily lives it is not a priority. I was appalled, just like everyone else at the events of that day, watching a peaceful protest by a broad range of citizens turn into something very ugly. A few bad apples and next thing you know, the Democrats are calling for heads to roll. From President Trump all the way down to a Sheriff’s deputy that came to show his frustration over what was assumed at the time to be a dubious election process.
Having these hearings televised on prime time is a little much don’t you think? However, if you look at the big picture in this country, you can easily see why this is being splashed across every media outlet except one.
This administration has done a horrific job. Period. I tried defending them a little a year ago but that was a fools errand. Clearly, Joe Biden is not up to the task. America sees that and has repeatedly said that in almost every poll. My unscientific poll a couple of weeks back showed this as well. The result was simple, one person (out of 100) felt Joe Biden was doing a good job.
The polls are telling a story that the Democrats truly fear. The President leads his party and he is now leading his party into a possible hole they may not get of for years. It may be possible that the Republican Party will take over both houses of Congress and completely stymie anything that President Biden wants to accomplish. With his constant flubs on air, mismanagement on pretty much everything, President Biden may go down in history as the worst president in the last 100 years. Think about that for a minute, when have you ever taken stock (good or bad) a person’s presidency 18 months in? I don’t ever recall that happening.
Carter? It took a decade after he left office for people to formulate an opinion about his presidency. Same with Clinton, Bush (either), even Ronnie Reagan. Legacies are just that, a legacy. It is determined after people have time to digest and interpret that particular Presidents impact. Not Joe Biden. I think it is far to say that he will not get reelected should he choose to run and his legacy will not be a favorable one.
Back to the story: Knowing that the administration is desperate to change the discourse in America now, it is so obvious that they feel that these hearings will change people’s opinions about Donald Trump (never going to happen) and the Republican minority (that will never happen as well). The media, once again, is complicit in this changing course and while I am no big fan of Fox News, they are the only media outlet that sees through this diversion.
Oh, the American people see through this as well.
Just think about it. If President Biden’s polling numbers were where pretty much every President in history were at this time in his Presidency do you think that this hearing would be a national media event? No, it would be on CSpan2 and repeated at 3 in the morning and no one would care. The Democrats are desperate to take people’s minds off of how bad this administration has screwed up the economy and this hearing, they believe, will be just the thing.
One thing I will say, at least these hearings and the previous investigations have born some fruit. Several people have been charged and some convicted so far so you have to believe that they sort of got it right. Something bad happened, people were responsible, people were charged, tried and convicted. Well done I say.
Compare that to all of the Hillary Clinton shenanigans. Four years of investigating links between President Trump and some Russian mystery people has yielded nothing. You have to believe that they have turned over every rock and pebble in the swamp and found nothing substantial as of yet, they probably won’t find anything. Time to end the witch hunts. Maybe I am naive but if you have some very very smart people looking into improprieties and they find nothing, I am pretty sure there isn’t anything.
Unfortunately, for the administration, reliving one of the darkest days in decades will not help them. It is about the economy, it has always been and will continue to be, about the economy. People vote with their pocketbooks. When their pocketbooks buy less at the end of an administration than it did in the beginning of that administration, people will get rid of that administration.
One thing that I have seen and it is beyond disturbing on many levels is the administration’s push to blame everyone and everything for what is happening to the economy. They are responsible, make no mistake. The administration has no clue how to fix things because the administration has no clue how we got here. Blaming someone else is becoming a national pass time and seeing the President of this country blaming Putin’s war(He said it numerous times), Saudi greed (he implied it as well), and Donald Trump (Seriously?) why would anyone take ownership for their mistakes? The President doesn’t.
We all make mistakes, fix the mistake, try not to do it again and move on. Every child should have been taught that from an early age but apparently, admitting one’s mistakes has been left out of the current parent handbook.
