And They Wonder Why
This being a holiday week, I planned to do just one column tomorrow and encapsulate the previous year and what to look forward to next year but I had to sit down and write something on this George Santos developing scandal.
For those who haven’t heard about it, I will quickly summarize.
George Santos was elected this past November to represent my district in Congress. He is a Republican and won a very very tight race in the 3rd Congressional District of New York. In the course of doing it’s normal butcher job on Republicans, the New York Times discovered that Mr Santos was not exactly telling the truth about his past.
He lied.
He lied about practically everything on his resume. He lied about past job experiences. He lied about his educational background. He lied about pretty much everything he used to win election. The only thing he told the truth about was that he was gay.
I am not one to ever defend the liberal media in this country but I will say that the Times has done an excellent job reporting this story. For one thing, there has been exactly zero political bias. Maybe they started with fury because, God Forbid, he was a republican and he was gay (apparently the Times thinks it’s impossible to be gay and Republican, but thats for another column), but it was more about the out and out fraud this guy has committed.
Everyone should read the Times version of this story because, like I said, it is factual, well researched and remarkably without that typical Times Bias.
His misappropriation of the facts is really not the story here. The story is how in the Hell is this guy going to be allowed to be sworn in and serve?
The media and everyone in this country constantly try to vilify Wall Street at every turn but I know for a fact, you lie on your application or on your U-4, you get fired. No hearing panels, no Oprah moments, you are out the door and you have to find another career somehow. Obviously, it is more important to watch how and where people’s money goes than it is to make laws to guide this nation.
Do I think the investigation would have went this far if this guy was a Democrat, I am going to say yes. This is not a political story as much as it is a criminal story and the stuff he has lied about strikes me as criminal more than bad judgement.
Obviously, I don’t know all the details, only Santos does, but there is enough admitted fraud to kick this guy out of Congress and send him back to Brazil.
Even the LGBTQ community wants nothing to do with this fella, yet he will most likely be sworn in on the steps of the Capitol. Upholding the fine tradition of those who came before him.
We all know that the people that serve us in Washington DC are a boiling cauldron of the worst of society, but this is even bringing that bunch down a couple of notches.
Not that anyone will listen but Congress should finally act like the rest of the country and toss this man before he takes that oath. Funny though, Congress has no provision for this. They can only toss a guy after he has taken that seat and then it is a lengthy, political nightmare to remove him.
I just, once again, am completely appalled by Congress and how their rules are so much different than the rest of this country. They make the laws but they do not abide by them.
Trust me, this will be a hot political football as the new year unfolds. The Republicans haven’t said anything yet because at the end of the day, they don’t want to lose that seat in the House. The Democrats will be scratching at the back door trying to toss this conniving liar. My guess, it will die down and he will still be in that seat at the end of the year. That would just solidify what everyone thinks about our elected officials.
I hope I am wrong.
