A Trend is Developing
Before the three liberals that read my Substack ask to be removed from my mailing list, I just want to say, I feel for you guys. You have bought into an ideology that could possibly work and be beneficial to society, but has leadership that makes it almost impossible to believe that it can actually work.
I consider myself a moderate Republican with a very strong independent streak. I believe in fiscal responsibility for every level of government and I totally believe that the success is never guaranteed. You have to work for what you get and in this country anyone can succeed if they work hard, stay within the broad lines of society and treat people fairly. Thats Capitalism and it works.
I also can see a government that works to help people in need. Being a backstop for any and all citizens is not what I am talking about however. That is where I differ from the left. People should be responsible for their actions and pay the price for those actions. The government is not there to facilitate actions that are detrimental to the community but yet, we have a dwindling contingent that believes that the actions of some are caused by the actions of many and that is a load of crap.
What I am talking about is the continued wave of minor and major crimes that seem to draw media attention but very little attention of law enforcement in certain cities across the country. Surprisingly, this uptick in brazen criminal behavior is taking place in cities and counties that have strong Democratic leadership. There I said it. The Liberal policies of these administrations has seemingly given carte blanch to a criminal element that may have thought twice about ransacking a Gucci store in a more Conservative city like Lubbock Texas. Bail reform, defund the police mandates and general Liberal craziness has created safe spaces for criminals and in turn, quickly destroyed some of the appeal of these cities.
Costa’s Political Pendulum is however swinging back towards the center as citizens of these cities have decided that crime impacts their quality of life and believing that criminals are people who have been marginalized by society is a load of garbage. Criminals are criminals because they see opportunities and take advantage of the environment to execute their criminal behavior. If there are more cops on the street tasked with actually doing police work, those opportunities go down. If the laws are clear that you do the crime, you do the time, that element might rethink certain actions.
I am not naive. I do know that people will commit crimes. It is easier than getting a job and being a productive member of society. If the police are allowed to do their jobs and the criminal justice system is allowed to do theirs, crime will decrease. You can pull all the Liberal hokey nonsense out of any folder you want, those are the facts.
Where the pendulum is swinging now is that people from those Liberal communities are seeing that dialing back enforcement is killing their hometowns and maybe, just maybe, they need to dial it back up.
Once again I will bring up a fact Liberals can’t ignore. Members of the black and hispanic communities in almost every major city would prefer to see an increase in police presence instead of a decrease. Would they like to see the mentality of some police officers weeded out, of course, but the overall reality is that almost all cops are on their side and looking to help make their communities safer.
One last gripe. One thing that you never hear Liberals or the left in general do is take ownership. It is a constant barrage of blame and frankly, I am sick of it. If your policies failed, change them and admit it was a mistake. Does not make you less of a person and people for the most part will appreciate the fact that you owned up to something and learned from it and became a better person for it. I could write a 25,000 word article with examples of the left blaming everything from Trump to Sunspots and never once admitting they failed. Maybe I am bit too harsh on the left because I am sure there are plenty of Conservative policies that sucked and very few on the right would admit the mistakes but right now, it is not Conservative policies that are choking this country, it is the left. Time to fess up and follow your constituents and not your ideology.
